Representative Kurt Zellers announced today he would not seek re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives. Zellers is one of the top Republican candidates against Governor Mark Dayton. In a statement released by his legislative office, Zellers said:
It has been an honor to serve the good people of Maple Grove and Osseo over the past 11 years…I’m proud of the important legislation I passed over the past six terms benefitting the residents of Maple Grove and Osseo, as well as the state of Minnesota.
I wrote two weeks ago, that Zellers has some interesting decisions to make in the next few weeks. Zellers’ fundraising totals were impressive and his campaign announced the appointment of a political director. I added that while Zellers continued with his campaign for governor, he had yet to announce he won’t run for re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives, should his campaign for governor end before the filing period closes. Zellers has now chosen his path for 2014.
Zellers’ campaign has been very active since precinct caucuses, including releasing a new website targeting Dayton. While he’ll still be a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Zellers’ schedule will have less limitations. I’ll add a personal comment that Kurt Zellers is one of the nicest people in Minnesota politics. I’m not wading into the Republican race for governor, but I wish nothing but the best for Zellers and his family.
