Governor Mark Dayton was endorsed by two newspapers today – The St. Cloud Times and the Winona Daily News. Both newspapers editorials offered tough analysis on the weaknesses in Jeff Johnson’s candidacy.
“Dayton’s running against Republican Jeff Johnson. Who’s that? We’re not really sure, either. The guy wasn’t exactly blessed with a memorable name, but then again, he hasn’t done much to put anything next to his name, either. We think the party would have been much better served by nominating Kurt Zellers or Marty Seifert, both of whom have significantly higher profile and would have led a compelling statewide discussion by contrasting their views and philosophies of state governance with Dayton’s.” Source: Winona Daily News, “Our view: Minnesota Governor endorsement: Dayton”, October 27, 2014
“Republican challenger Jeff Johnson’s strongest arguments seem rooted more in attacking Dayton than detailing exactly what government programs and priorities he would change and cut. Yet those details are important amid his broad push for lower taxes and less regulations. Plus, unlike Dayton, it’s hard to see compromise emerging from his rhetoric and record.” Source: St. Cloud Times, “Our View: 4 years show Dayton deserves another term”, October 27, 2014
