North Korea vows ‘strong’ military response to joint drills by Washington and Seoul South Korean news agency Yonhap reported. Pyongyang says the military drills, organized by South Korea and the US, are “a provocation”.

In recent days, tensions between Pyongyang and Seoul have risen, including the first time since 1953 that several missiles launched by North Korea fell into South Korean waters.

“Consistent, determined and massively practical military operations”

In a statement, the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army said it would “continue to respond to all anti-DPRK combat exercises by the enemy with sustained, decisive and massive practical military operations.” KCNA reported.

The statement added that North Korea’s recent ballistic missile tests were a “clear response” to joint US-South Korean exercises.

“The longer the enemy’s military provocations continue, the more thoroughly and mercilessly the Korean People’s Army will confront them,” the statement further threatened.
